Christmas decorating tips from home experts at ASJ Design

Looking to decorate your house for Christmas? The mother and daughter duo over at ASJ Design, have let us in on their insider decorating tips for your home this Christmas. From simple tips for those on a budget to focusing on the architectural features in your home, there's a Christmas tip in there for everyone.

  • Classically we see people decorating the mantel & table centre but why not consider enhancing other architectural features in your home like windowsills, doorways, hearths, shelves, and archways. You can apply the same method and concept for all of these. And even do away with the tree entirely!
  • One simple and cost effective tip is adding branches, leaves & cones to your décor or tree. Pick up some gold, silver or white spray paint to spray them. This will add texture and something organic.
  • Be sustainable, forage for natural decorations even if it is simply from the supermarket with some oranges and cinnamon sticks. This will also bring a lovely scent that will last through the festive period.
  • Almost as important as the top of your tree, don’t forget the bottom! Add a tree skirt to finish your look and ensure maximum elegance.
  • We’d recommend decorative ribbons and string, which are a lovely way to add colour, softer textures and create a theme.
  • Be more flamboyant and unusual with some of your decoration choices, some great shops to get design-led products are Mrs Alice, Sophie Conran and Graham and Green, who all have some great pieces not just for the tree but for all around your home.
  • Top tip! After trimming your Christmas tree to make it more symmetrical/fit perfectly in the desired spot, you can use the discarded branches to decorate other areas in the home.

Founded in 2010 and now steered by mother-daughter partnership, Amanda and Annie, ASJ Design is a practice with a collective passion for innovative and authentic design. They work with clients to make beautiful, yet functional design schemes a reality.
