On the easel: Sea Shells

On the easel: Sea Shells

On the easel this month is shells. Shells have unique and detailed shapes and shading. Growing up in Barbados, I’ve always been by the sea and collecting shells was one of my favourite activities as a child. Following the discovery of some old sketch books, I’ve decided to focus on shells for my upcoming collection.

Given their unique shapes and textures, I’ve been using different techniques and media for the studies, including colour pencils, inks,  gouache and fineliners. I've created a range of sketches that will become limited edition shell wall art in my March art drop.

While shells typically are known to suit coastal theme interiors, I've used colours that add a touch of personality and warmth to a living space. From a terracotta marble background to an earth toned block print background there's lots of new things to discover.

You can see the work in progress below.
